Throwback Thursday

I grew up in San Diego, well, a suburb east of San Diego called La Mesa.  When I became an adult I lived all over San Diego, moving on average about every year and a half until I married Mike and we moved back to La Mesa to have our kids and raise our family...before moving to Florida and parts North.  I spent a huge part of my time before meeting Mike at the beach communities, living in both Ocean Beach and Crown Point.  Neither of which I have a photo of BUT here's an old time photo of Pacific Beach taken in 1925.

And a recent photo so you can see the changes...and what hasn't changed that much.

Photos are from a book called San Diego Then and Now.

I thought a change of pace for Throwback Thursday would be nice and give you a break from all the family photos.

TBT...Daddy-o!

In honor of Father's Day last weekend...here's my dad!
This is mom and dad's engagement photo.  Adorable!

My dad and my brother, I think.  No date on the picture.

Here's my dad with my mom in front of Binion's million dollars at the Horseshoe in Las Vegas.
And a more recent photo that throws back to last month when my niece Michelle was married.

Love you Dad!!

What a Great Weekend!!

I know some of you social media folks have seen these pics before...but I thought I'd post them here for my non-FB, non-Instagram friends.

My mom and sister came for a long weekend visit to see Joey graduate from high school and celebrate my Birthday.  It was such a fun, action packed weekend!! Well, I say action packed because we did a lot of fun stuff but there was a nice amount of down time to chat and laugh and just hang out.

Justine helping me take selfies (I got lessons from her and Barb)...in the car, on the way to our 5K walk on Saturday. It was the first race my mom had ever done...she did great!!
 Yeah!  Congratulations Joey!!
The ceremonies were very nice...and inside!

Mom and Barb with Joey!

Three more years and we do this again with Justine.

They brought with them perfect weather from California!  Now that they're gone, it's turned hot and humid.  Ick. I miss them so much already!

Me and my sis!!

Ten for Tuesday...Summer Beverage Style

My ten favorite Summer drinks (adult and otherwise):

1
Iced Coffee...oh how I love thee on a hot summer day at around 3pm in the afternoon! Usually in my Tervis tumbler with hazelnut creamer, my knitting and a good movie.

2
Iced cold water.  Now that the humidity is starting to kick in, it's a must to keep hydrated.

3
Wine spritzer. White wine with club soda or red wine (Shiraz) and sprite, lots of ice.  This is the drink I get with my bartender (Mike) asks, "Does anyone want a cocktail?"

4
Strawberry Margarita.  Preferably with chips and salsa.

5
Cold beer...Corona or Blue Moon.  With snack mentioned above.

6
Iced tea...sans sweet.  Now that I'm out of the south, I can order "iced tea" with out getting sweet tea. I guess down south they just assume everyone wants sweet tea.

7
Iced Chai Tea Latte...favorite summer drink from Starbucks.

8
Sea Breeze cocktail...cranberry juice, grapefruit juice and vodka.

9
Sangria...ala Debby Flesher! (She makes such good Sangria!!)

10
Lemonade.  Duh...it's summer!

#tbt...Brennee Style

Throwback Thursday...all me!
Yes, as it does every year, my birthday rolls around this weekend...again. I thought I'd show some photos of me through the years.

This is my first grade photo in my Bluebird uniform (like Brownies in Girl Scouts but Campfire Girls...which is so much better than Girl Scouts). See...my hair really was blond!

I think I was in fifth or sixth grade in this photo.  I had braces and good vision. My mom used to cut my hair...and she's not a hairdresser. I had that darn "pixie" hair cut for years!

I remember Mr. Kozlowski (math teacher in 8th grade) told me, "Tell you mom you need glasses, you're squinting at the board." And what lovely glasses! This isn't my first pair.  The first pair made me look exactly like Mrs. Beasley from Family Affair.  Remember the doll the Buffy carried around.  Really!  And that hair! Good gracious!!  I used to force those curls down in an attempt to look like a normal teenager. And yes, that's a macrame necklace with my name spelled out in beads.  I was so cool.

In high school, I finally got a "real" haircut at a salon.  I remember the gal said to me, "Gee, your hair grows so uneven." I didn't tell her my mom had been cutting it all my life.  haha  So I started to embrace my curly head...and I got contacts.

Here I am with short hair and my new sports car!  This car was so fun! See my vanity plates?  My friend Brian gave them to me.  He and my dad were the only ones who called me Brennee.  I use it as my Ravatar now.  And yes, that's a Bart Simpson t-shirt I'm wearing.  Don't judge...you probably had something just as bad in the late 80's.

This was taken on Lake Powell on a houseboat!  Mike and I with family and friends spent a week on a houseboat scooting up and down on beautiful Lake Powell.
And I was pregnant with Veronica at the time.

Barb and my mom arrive from San Diego today to spend the weekend with us...and watch Joey graduate from high school.

Hope your weekend is a blast too!
