Grandparent's Visit

Mike's folks came to visit in May and we ventured into Washington DC on the metro!

We let Justine play hookie and spend the day with us...hey, it was a little bit educational.  Doesn't that count?
Justine making a souvenir penny at the Smithsonian.

Found this statue of some general or something while walking around.
And we found some not-so-traditional stuff in the sculpture garden across from the National Gallery. We also visited the National Gallery, too!  There was a huge Degas exhibit, not only his beautiful paintings but many, many sculptures, too.  Apparently he did sculpting to help his painting but they were never really seen by anyone but colleagues and family.  The exception being the his "The Little Fourteen-Year-Old Dancer". The original sculpture had real fabric for the skirt and bow (behind her head).

And the gardens were in bloom!

The day after Al and MaryLou left, I went in for surgery on my nose to remove a basal cell carcinoma.  Turned out to be a large area that needed removal.  So much, that I needed plastic surgery to "repair" the area the next day.  They removed skin from my neck to cover the area.  No fun to say the least.  But I'm on the mend now, all stitches removed and healing nicely.  My nose looks just awful during this process but what can you do?  It'll take up to a year for the scar tissue to look more "normal".  All those years of sun and sunburns as a kid finally caught up with me.  I really grateful that the doctor caught it all so I don't have to go back for more torture.
Wear your sunscreen and get your skin checked by a dermatologist.
